The Effects of Online Poker on the World

I sometimes wonder what effect online poker has on the world. With all the money floating around on these online poker sites it seems as though one country must be winning more often than the others. For example, let’s say that 1000 people from the U.S. lose $1000.00 each a month, that’s $1,000,000.00 gone from the U.S. economy in one month. That’s a lot of money to leave the United States, and I can only assume that they have no way of knowing where this money went. Now let’s look at the opposite, if 1000 people from the U.S. win $1000.00 each in a month, that’s $1,000,000.00 being added to the U.S. economy. This is obviously only a small example and it most likely happens on a much larger scale with one country coming out on top. The online poker industry is huge with somewhere around $100 million being wagered everyday(not 100% accurate). With this much money being transferred everyday from country to country, it seems likely to me that this would have an impact on any country and its economy.

I would be very interested to know the winnings of each country and see which one is winning more often than the others. Maybe it would be smart for a country to start training their citizens how to play poker so that they can benefit from the online poker industry. That makes me wonder if that’s the reason the United States tries to ban online poker, maybe they were worried that their citizens would lose all of their money to other countries.

In conclusion, I think that there will eventually have to be some sort of system worked out to monitor the money bet on online poker. If there is something like this already available I would very much like to know about it.
